Six hundred and sixty-two 3mm holes punched along a 13.3 foot long paper strip, accordion-folded into a 120-page book, and wrapped in a printed paper belly-band. Using a 1:16 scale version of The Bayeux Tapestry as a guide, the exact head position of each of the 626 human figures (embroidered into the original tapestry) were marked onto a 13-foot long strip of 160gsm paper, and punched out as 3mm holes. When the pages are removed from the hardcovers they can be fed and wound through a 15-note mechanical music box, sounding notes.

Concept:
The book is a representation of the positions of the human figures, echoing the visual rhythms of the original Bayeux tapestry. The visual elements of The Bayeux Tapestry comprises 626 human figures, 190 horses, 35 dogs, 506 other birds and animals (such as hawks, rabbits, lions, camels, mythical beasts) 33 buildings, 37 ships, 37 trees, and 57 Latin inscriptions.

TECHCONNECT (MINIATURE PORTFOLIO)

Product Description: A 7 cm x 5 cm x 2 cm brown card box. Italicized in green on the front of the box is the title ‘TECHCONNECT’, alongside a green strip containing the word ‘vision’. The box is contained within a tracing paper bellyband. Upon this is the title of ‘Miniature portfolio' in a letterpress-like typeface.
The reader opens the box to reveal a series of one-sided cards. Each panel narrates the story of a young girl being told she cannot have sweets. Although these have been inkjet printed, the original drawings look as if they were watercolor.
The final card, a front view of the sweet shop, is stuck to the box’s back panel.

Take a Leaf

Product Description: An 8 cm x 5 cm concertina book. The books title, ‘Take a Leaf’ sits on the cover, surrounded by white space. A small colorful branch reaches down. Alternating panels on the interior contain charming line drawings of various plant life, contrasting serif-based type. The type is a basic description of the plant form, for example “Alpine leaves have thick hair that trap warm air”. The artist describes the book as illustrating “how plants adapt to different weathers”. Unusually, the concertina is double-sided. The back of the book contains much more elaborate and bright imagery, demonstrating the breadth of plant life within the natural world. ‘Take a Leaf’ is contained within a miniature belly band, a small strip of faded green paper sealed with an unknown adhesive.

Product Description: A pair of pocket sized, staple-bound books. The first book, entitled ‘Wedlock’ is encased in a dense grey card. The second, ‘Threads’, is in a light brown. The interior pages of the book are cartridge.
Described as ‘an autobiographical collection’, the book contains a series of stories. Each one is headed by a unique title and date. The text is in small paragraphs with tabbed beginnings. According to the author, the books were inspired by childhood memories.

Trodden Under Foot

TRODDEN UNDER FOOT

Product Description:  An A5, laser-printed publication sequentially exploring items on the street. The interior pages are basic copy paper, encased in a brown cartridge. To visualize the items “trodden” upon, the artist uses monochromatic imagery, usually containing a form of type and repeated, geometric patterns. The icons sit at the bottom of the page, accompanied by listed type: “Place, Date, Time, Tally”. The book is interactive, described as “an activity book for all ages”. The viewer is encouraged to tick off when they see the item.

A grid of all the image is included at the back of the book.

Product Description: A landscape 7 cm by 11 cm book with deckled edges. The book consists of six unattached exerts which have been folded to form a book (without being bound). Central to each page are a series printed labels, containing a variety of quotes. Each quote is assigned a different typeface, reflective of the quotes tone. For example, ‘Conform to your own codes” has been constructed using a pixelated typeface.

Product Description: A humorous, fictional countdown of “The Top 10 Irish Inventions”. The artist accompanies fictitious profiles of family and friends (presumed to be the inventors) with sketches of supposed inventions. Examples include an inflatable dartboard, a solar-paneled torch and a strap-on portable chair. Inkjet printed imagery has been mounted onto dark green card. The layers of card are sandwiched between slices of yellow foam (the front and back cover). The entire book is bound using metal hinges and duct-tape. The hinges have been decorated with clovers, synonymous with Ireland.

A 12 page concertina book with cream card cover.This book uses an array of different papers, trace, colour trace, coloured card, recycled paper and hand made paper. It has a perspex box cover with a sliding lid. The book is an exciting mix of text and image on various papers that depicts a journey through water, a decent to death through drowning. The different mental stages are shown through the use of different papers, images and text. It use of innovative binding, paper engineering, overlay and folds take the viewer on an exciting journey through the book.
